Study Chinese in Taiwan

3-Weeks at UNG:

  • PGO participants will spend 3-weeks at UNG taking a carefully tailored language program for beginners that covers what is traditionally one semester of Chinese. In addition to classroom instruction, participants will engage in co-curricular activities including but not limited to cooking and art classes, movies in the target language, and a cultural field trip to Atlanta. UNG’s program will encourage an immersive-style environment through substantial interaction between students and native-speaking faculty and assistants. By the end of the domestic portion, students will build a strong base knowledge of Chinese before departing to Taipei for the remaining 5-weeks of their program.

5-Weeks in Taipei:

  • Hosted by the Mandarin Training Center at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), the Project GO – Chinese Year 1 program will deliver an intensive in-class language instruction designed to strengthen reading, speaking, pronunciation (tones), listening, and writing skills. Taught by experienced and engaging faculty, the program will include daily small group language classes in the morning, complemented by one-to-one tutorial training and one-to-two speaking training in the afternoon.
  • Cultural instruction is also a feature of the summer curriculum. Each week, students will have the opportunity to participate in a rotating schedule of excursions outside of Taipei City, language partner activities, and culture classes on topics such as Chinese cuisine, Tai-chi, calligraphy, and tea appreciation.

This program is for cadets that have been selected for Project Go. Please visit the Project Go website to learn more about their application process. Once cadets have been selected they will be notified regarding next steps for applying to the Chinese Immersion in Taiwan program.
