Overview

Students may be eligible to gain professional experience in their field by completing short term work internationally for credit. Interning abroad is a great way to experience another culture, improve foreign language, and gain professional experience in your field.

Some majors require students to complete an internship as a part of their degree requirement, ranging anywhere from 3-9 credit hours. However, students may complete an internship even if it is not required by their degree. Simply verify with your academic advisor if an internship is a good fit for your plan of study.

Benefits of International Internships

International internships are an excellent way to apply ideas, concepts, theories and principles acquired in an academic program to the professional world. They allow you to establish and address personal and professional development goals; develop necessary employment skills and strategies; and identify your professional strengths and limitations while learning the structure and operation of an international organization.

International internships will help you gain a better understanding of the changing world of work and how to develop career planning and decision-making skills for the future. They will also allow you to explore various formal and informal organizational structures, communication styles and work cultures.

*Students cannot receive academic credit for an international internship without working with the Center for Global Engagement.

*This application is for students that are not enrolled in the International Affairs undergraduate program. If you are enrolled in the International Affairs Program, please visit the IA Major International Internship Brochure
